Green Meadows & Green Meadows West

Green Meadows and Green Meadows West represent some of Johnston's most beloved and established family neighborhoods. First developed in the 1990s by a land-management subsidiary of Pioneer Hi-Bred, these communities were innovative for their time — designed with cul-de-sac privacy, abundant green space interconnections, and easy access to the Des Moines metro.

Green Meadows West stands out with exceptional natural amenities: over 2.5 miles of privately maintained bike trails that connect to Johnston and Urbandale's extensive trail system, 30 acres of beautifully restored Iowa prairie, and a recently renovated 6-acre Iowa hardwood forest. Two privately maintained parks provide gathering spaces for community events.

The neighborhoods are located in the west-central part of Johnston, bordering the city's 55-acre Lew Clarkson Park.
